With a historical moment for the whisky industry, Nordic whisky distilleries have officially launched a collaboration to strengthen and promote the region’s whisky category on the global stage.
The decision was made at a gathering of 18 whisky distilleries from all across the Nordic countries, held in Copenhagen on the 18-19 March 2025. This was the first time the industry has joined forces in such a way.
“It has taken us a while to get to this point where we are ready for such a collaboration, but now we’re here,” said Anssi Pyysing, Head of the elected working group. “We’re neighbors who share both history and values. By coming together we will work to establish Nordic whisky as a category that stands proudly among the other recognized whisky regions.”
Nordic Whisky Collaboration – an organization to elevate Nordic whisky
As an organization, Nordic Whisky Collaboration will work to elevate the identity and recognition of Nordic whisky internationally. It provides a platform for distilleries to collaborate, exchange insights, and promote the distinct qualities that set Nordic whisky apart.
Jan Groth, Head of the soon to be established Nordic Whisky Collaboration, emphasized the significance of the initiative. “This marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Nordic whisky. The industry has grown a lot in the last decade, and now, with a united approach, we have the opportunity to truly showcase the exciting variety we have to whisky lovers around the world”, Groth says.
The organization’s next steps include formalizing its structure and setting strategic initiatives for the coming year.
